Better than Book 7!
I thought Dead to Worse was a big improvement over the formulaic All Together Dead. I was beginning to tire of the series with its vignette relationships for Sookie and its lack of meaningful conversation between characters whose actions suggest greater depth than their described discussions or relationships. Harris really enhances her characters in this book and shows us greater emotional complexity in all the supes, beyond their obvious powers. Sookie herself finds a greater depth and honesty and her character is finally able to reflect better on whether anyone is truly free from strife. She finally realizes her contact with the supernatural world has allowed her greater personal freedom, reverence and expression than she has realized. That realization seems to have enhanced her quality of life, as well as her value to all the characters in her world. The ending of this book leaves many avenues open for Sookie to interact more with newly discovered relatives, with Eric, and with the humans in Bon Temps. I hope that Harris keeps subsequent books more in line with the tone of this one.

Very Disappointing
I bought all of the books and read them in under a week. They were wonderful until this one. I just don't understand why Sookie can't have a relationship? This book was very boring and frustrating. I was shocked. I may have to borrow the next one from the library before I waste my money purchasing another book in this series. Truly disappointing.

Difficult to Put Into Words...
Though I am a big fan of Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse novels, this is the only novel out of the series with which I struggled to read. From Dead to Worse returns us to Bon Temps and the crazy antics of each of the various characters Sookie has encountered throughout the previous 7 books. Her boyfriend, Quinn, appears to be missing. Her brother, Jason, and his werepanther wife Crystal are having marital problems. The Shreveport wolf pack is in chaos while the vampires have their own coup with which to contend. As usual, Sookie has been forced into the middle of these varying conflicts, pitting her against numerous paranormal beings.

But despite the twists and suspense one would expect from such a plot, this book is probably the least suspenseful or even intriguing out of all of the Sookie Stackhouse novels. Though Harris does a remarkable job in resolving/developing several personal issues previously introduced - Sookie allegedly having fairy blood, the mixed emotions between Eric and Sookie, etc. - the effect renders the novel heavy on the resolution of loose ends and short on a truly developed plot complete with intrigue, terror, and suspense. Rest assured that if you are a fan of the Sookie Stackhouse series, you will undoubtedly continue on to reading Harris' next release in the series once it is available; however, don't be surprised if this one leaves you disappointed and unfulfilled in the interim.

From Dead to Worse
This book was great! Poor Sookie needs a vacation to somewhere fun like Vegas or the Bahamas. She needs to buy a little black dress and enjoy a margarita.

I Love this Series - Sookie is here to stay, I hope
From Dead to Worse is the 8th book in the Sookie Stackhouse series and I really enjoyed the latest book. So much action taking place in this novel, lots of different plots going on. Sookie's boyfriend Quinn has disappeared in this book and is no where to be found. Vampires Eric, Bill and Pam are back. Bill is still asking Sookie to forgive him and Eric is remembering the time he spent alone with Sookie. There is a Werewolf War and a hostile Vampire takeover.
Sookie still has a roommate that has the cat (man) that she used magic on to turn into said cat and can't change him back.
The action opens up right away along with the many twists and turns in this book, it is sure to keep your interest until the end. I am looking forward to book 9.
