Sorry State of Affairs
I'm sorry that I have to agree with all the negative comments I've just read about this book. I've just finished listening to the audio version and am glad I'm done! At different points during the book I've had every negative opinion written here- from James Patterson couldn't have written this book, to how could he make Alex Cross into a bumbling idiot in a foreign country. Too much preaching, not enough thoughtful background into the characters as previous Cross books. I'll buy the next Alex Cross book/audio but if it's like this particular one, it will be my last James Patterson book, as much as I hate to say it. Before this debacle, James Patterson was on the top of my list of "must read" authors especially an Alex Cross book. 2008-12-02

James Patterson, please take a vacation
I do not think that James Patterson has really written a good book since "Along Came a Spider" (which was excellent.) I am tired of being disappointed by his predictable, thrown together story lines. This is the last of his books for me. 2008-12-02

Cross Over
I enjoyed this novel and I've read Alex Cross stories before. This was definitely different, but not in a bad way. We see a new, desperate, edgier Cross, confronted with forces he can hardly comprehend. He has to discard his lawful approach to justice and survive according to the laws of the "jungle." There was depth to this character. although I really couldn't take his nose getting broken one more time.... 2008-12-02

Cross Country
I'm a big fan of James Patterson. I was so excited when I seen a new James Patterson novel coming out. I have to admit tho I was disappointed in Cross Country. If I hadn't seen the movie Blood Diamond I would have enjoyed Cross Country more. It seemed he took a lot of his writing from the movie. He didn't include Sampson in this book as much as his others. There were no comic relief sections to relieve you from the action. I think he should have stayed in this Country instead of crossing countries. Cross Country (Alex Cross Novels)

Not as bad as some imply
I will admit this is not the standard Alex Cross fare but it was still a good read. Unbelieveable, at times yes, but that is why it is called fiction. In some ways it was very sad.....what is going on over in Africa, Darfur, etc. I believe what Alex was trying to do was not what we as readers expect of him, we know he is a lot smarter, but it might be one of these times where Mr. Patterson is just trying to open our eyes to some of the atrocities going on in Africa. Movie stars, authors, and singers are always pushing their agenda so take this book for what it is worth -- a good read, a sad story and a plea that we should all be willing to help others. Maybe not what you signed up for when you read and bought the book but I for one am glad I did.
I look forward to reading about Alex's adventures in future books.
