The Chicago Manual of Style

I was very happy with the prompt delivery of this item as I needed it for a class.

I came across this book years ago when I had to knock out a paper for my college professor. The references had to be according to the Chicago Manual of Style.

I've found out since then that there are other manuals of style but when working with some printers they told me that the Chicago Manual of Style is the print industry standard.

In spite of that handicap the book is well written and laid out. I find it relatively quick and easy to find whatever information I need. A book like this completes your library of English reference books. You can learn from here, for instance, what is an em dash or an en dash.

The definatve guide, imho. There are so many little details I find myself double checking with this as I edit. Very comprehensive.

Be prepared to cross-reference your notes when you decide to use this manual. The contradictions are only on the surface and if one reviews all cases there is a beautiful simplicity and consistency in the system this work out-lines. Better still, for those VERY few cases not covered, the overall system is flexible enough and can show a user how to devise his own solutions according to the Chicago paradigm. This is a must have for graduate students, especially those in history.

Wonderful and complete, whether you know a lot about style or are just learning.
