What a Disappointment!

I devoured the first three books in this series in a short matter of time, but, this one... well, I almost couldn't finish reading it! I kept hoping that something would redeem it, but it just kept getting more boring and then even more boring. I should have just stopped, but I felt I had to read it in order to receive some sort of payoff and to make sense of why I had felt compelled to buy and read the previous three.

The author made a big deal out of why Bella and Edward didn't have sex before marriage (Edward's so-called morals or his being old-fashioned--give me a break! He's a vampire and he has killed people! Once you kill a person and drink their blood, you sort of lose out on morals.) So, they had to get married in order to have sex and then Bella was basically beaten up while having sex with him because he just couldn't control himself 'cause he got too excited. That's disgusting! With a little imagination, I'm sure the author could have figured something else out to make it so Bella wouldn't have been hurt having sex with her husband.

But, you know, that wasn't even the worst part. Having her have a hybrid baby that had to chew its way out of her was sickening. And to make the baby able to live on human food and/or blood, but to make it prefer blood is just yucky. As if being human isn't good enough. But, I should have figured that out based on how all of the vampires became incredibly beautiful once they were changed and how Bella became such a fabulous vampire. Oh well.

I just feel sorry for my niece. She has purchased the first novel and is planning to read all of them as I have. I feel like I should warn her not to get her hopes up or maybe not to waste her time because once you finish reading the fourth book, you feel as if you lost all of the characters you had grown to love.

I really enjoyed reading the first three books and this had the potential to be a great story to the end, but it was ruined for me, and, as far as I can tell, for many others as well.

Not As Good As The First Three
I was very disappointed in how Breaking Dawn ended. Myers does a wonderful job of building suspense and a feeling of impendng doom with the coming of the Volturi but then it's like she just gives up in the end. Certain things didn't make sense. Why would the Volturi drag the Wives to the battle unless they were dead set on killing the Cullens. From the first mention of them in Twilight, we are told that the Volturi are death incarnate. All who stand against them are washed away in a flood of fire and blood and yet a new born vampire is able to undermine their whole operation. Hmm. . . I can understand if Myers didn't want to kill off any of her characters but why build up to such an anticlimax?
I also had a problem with Jacob suddenly not being a werewlf anymore but a shapeshifter. That was kind of a stretch considering since New Moon we have been steeped in the whole 'werewolf/vampire mortal enemy' thing.
The book does get one star for the slasher scene but then I have always been a horror fan and two more stars for the 'Jacob' section. I thought that was neat and well written.

twilight freak
I LOVE all the twilight series. Breaking dawn is my favourite!!! I think every women fantasies are in this book. Oh don't we all want Edward or 2 be Bella?...:) I felt strongly that after reading this last one.

Personally I love a happy ending
After reading all of the reviews I thought I would break down and write my own. I came into the Twilight world by chance and like almost everyone who has read Twilight, I too fell in love and finshed the whole series in less then two weeks. I laughed, cried and like some cringed. Despite the cringing, I loved Breaking Dawn, I loved the wedding, I loved their honeymoon, and I loved that Bella and Edward were going to have a "little nudger!!" The whole pregnacy and birth was a little crazy but the whole idea of a girl falling in love with a vampire, then marrying one, then becoming one is a little crazy. I'm glad even vampires can learn that one time is all it takes!! As far as the happy ending, it took Bella three previous books to get her happy ending, the fighting, Edward leaving, more fighting I was glad they got to be together in the end. People wanted a big fight to happen, but if Alice or Carlise or someone else were to have died people would of been mad with that too. As for Jacob imprinting on the "little nudger" I have to say I was happy with that too, happy that Jacob was happy and was finally over Bella. Like I said before some of the things were a little crazy but overall I was happy and I WISH Meyer would take us back there again sometime, we all need a happy ending sometimes!!

Why?
After seeing the move I fell in love with the Twilight story. I got all four books four Christmas, I could put the first three down, I was done reading them in a week. Then I got to Braking Dawn, what a disappointment .I still haven't finished it. I keep skipping pages because it got so boring .I what a redo of the ending. After the wedding why cant Jacob kidnapped Bella or something? After the kiss she shared with him I was hoping there would be more to their story! This book almost runs the whole Twilight series for me! And that imprint thing is just weird and almost gross. If the movie series continue I hope for a different ending.
