Good but not great.
So the story starts out with Eragon having many vows he has to keep. And he get's working on them. Like the first one to his brother Roran about saving Roran's fiancée Katrina. Eragon set's off to all the same places in this. He has issues staying in one place for too long. He went to the crowning of a new dwarf king to an old friend dying. He got around.
This book was a pretty good book to read even for a freshman. I know it says this book is fourth grade level book but even if it is I still enjoyed reading it. Christopher Paolini has done an amazing job with this series. I would personally have to say Eragon was my favorite then this one. Except I would have liked it if it ended here because I don't feel like waiting for the next book. But I guess he just had a lot to say.
There isn't too much to say now other than the fact that I liked the book I recommend it to those of you who have read the first 3 books. This isn't a book where you can just jump in because you will get lost. Fantasy lovers will enjoy it, it's full of action and adventure exactly what every good book has to have.

Enjoyable
I really enjoyed reading Brisingr - definitely my favorite of the three books in Paolini's Inheritance Cycle. This book had a better balance between action and character development. 2008-12-18

Stretching out a series that should have ended
I was quite anxious to read the 3rd book in the Trilogy, now a cycle, to see how Eragon would be able to conquer Galbatorix. Perhaps the writer has not figured out how and needed to needlessly stretch out this third book. It was extremely boring in parts almost as if the writer could not come to finish the tale.
Editors, take note, do your job and tightly edit the 4th book so we do not have to read another 700 pages.
Readers, you could just as easily skip the 3rd book, read some of the reviews and wait for the last (I hope) in the cycle.

Poorly written, badly plotted
With its obvious dependence on the plot twists of other stories, most notably Star Wars, Dune, Dragon Slayer, The Lord of the Rings and The Wheel of Time series, at the conclusion of Brisingr I found myself wondering whether Eldest was actually written by Paolini, or heavily edited by someone who has since moved on. His writing abilities have deteriorated with each installment in the series and I'm rather surprised the publishers went ahead and released Brisingr. Don't waste your money. 2008-12-17

not happy
I was informed tht this book was in brand new condition but in fact it was torn on the cover and the last 4 or 5 chapters are offset and not together with the book not happy with this copy at all 2008-12-16
