Blood Noir (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, Book 16)

Ok, so I've read EVERY single book that LKH has written. Yes, her stories have changed to become a lot more about sex (a little ironic especially for the Anita Blake series since Anita started off as Ms. Chastity Belt). Still, it doesn't make the stories bad. That being said, I like romance novels and also like the steamy sex scenes (gotta get my fix somewhere, right?). But for the male audience out there that reads these books, I suppose I can see why they would be so terribly upset by this. The series certainly started out much differently... so much more so that as we all know, Marvel Comics picked up the books as comics. These later books... probably from the 5th or 6th onward, aren't really appropriate for comic books at all. To remove the sexual charged scenes would leave not much left for the comics.

Anyway, I think all of you critics out there need to chill. These novels are NOT labeled as "action" or "adventure". Sure, they have some of that... but the reality is that they are and have always been classified as paranormal romance novels! Gee, why would a ROMANCE NOVEL have a lot of steamy sex scenes? Get over it and go buy a Stephen King novel if you don't want the hot and bothered variety. Duh.

LKH- keep up the good work! Your true fans still love ya! :-)

I have read some bad books in my time but this one takes the cake. I was shocked by the extend of just how bad it was. I mean truly impressive that such rubbish can be put into print. Makes me think even I could write a book, ha! I read her book Bloody Bones first and found it amusing. Boy what a difference between that and Blood Noir. I can honestly say that I have almost no clue what, if any storyline was being but forward in this 'novel'. Just an excuse to write about unchecked sex with as many people as humanly possible. This book belongs in soft porn not horror.

I won't soon make the mistake of buying another book by this author.

You are all Crazy, this book was great and I had to write a review just to offset all the negative ones on this site. If you are a Anita Blake series fan, love for this book will not be hard to find. And those who thought this book had too much sex, well it has less sex then some of the other excellent books in the series. I for one give it 5 stars and I am just happy and content there was an additional book in the series and look forward to anymore that may come out in the future.

I enjoyed the earlier Anita Blake books... LKH's heroine was different and for once - a strong female lead. She gradually went from being a prude to being a prude that was "oh-so-guilty" over having sex to a pure nymphomaniac. I didn't much like Anita when LKH made her so powerful - in fact, indestructible - that she was no longer realistic/sympathetic as a character. I think this was just prior to the horrible "Incubus Dreams" which was like a metaphysical train wreck. Reading that novel made my head spin... there was NO plot. At least I made it through Blood Noir without wanting to bang my head against the wall. This series has gone 'round the bend. I recommened Tanya Huff's Victoria Nelson series. Huff remained true to her characters and ended the series when the story played out... she let them leave on a good note. LKH needs to end the AB series before she completely destroys every character... Jean-Claude and Asher have lost their bite and Richard is a wet dog... :-(

Not a very helpful review I know, but that's all I can think to say. This book was so bad, pointless and poorly written, I am struck dumb by the idea that it was actually written - oh my god - and published too!

Pity I can't give this a negative 3...sigh
