Not quite what I expected
I can see how this book would be helpful for some, but to me it was filled with a lot of common sense. If you know nothing at all about dementia, it could be of assistance, but I wasn't wowed by this book at all. If you feel that you are lost and have no idea what to do, you may benefit from this book, but I didn't really benefit that much.

A MUST for every CAREGIVER
For the past 10 years, I have been a full time in-home caregiver for my mother who has dementia. I am not medically trained in any formal way, so this caregiving responsibility has forced me to do a lot of personal research in order for me to advocate properly for her. To that end I've read numerous books and attended seminars on caregiving and dealing with dementia. In my opinion, "The 36-Hour Day" is the gold standard of references for the dementia caregiver. It's one of those books that doesn't claim to have all the answers, but indeed teaches you a lot about dementia and what to expect at various points in the disease. It's not a book that has to be read cover to cover in order to help you, either - heaven knows, full time caregivers don't always have the time to sit and read. But I honestly feel that every person who needs to care for a dementia patient (and that includes home service caregivers, family caregivers and professional, medical caregivers) needs to have a copy of this book for reference. It will be a huge benefit to the caregiver as well as the patient.

Excellent
This book is most helpful - even skipping through will help. It was highly recommended by a friend and I have already told many friends about it. If you are facing this situation - I urge to get this book. Best wishes to those who are dealing with this.
