Condescending and Judgmental
There are few things I agree with in this book. One of the points I agree with is that fact that all people can be forgiven though God. However, there are many things I disagree with in this book. Things such as her inaccurate take on feminism, her idea that the social movements of the 1960's had a negative effect on our society, and I really had a problem with the fact that much of her data is outdated. DeMoss is grasping anything she can to try to make people believe her views are supported by the Bible and she seems to use her outdated sources to back herself up. For many of her sweeping generalizations she uses no supporting data at all!

I simply could not relate to many of her "lies"; mainly her "lies" about body image and material possessions. I am not one who wishes I had more stuff or a nicer body. I think she might believe all women are just poor, lost souls, who want to look like Victoria Beckham and have all the possessions of Oprah.

DeMoss is very condescending towards women. I think she believes all women are one step away from cheating on their husbands. She seems to think working wives and mothers are not real Christians. In fact, I think she believes that every woman who isn't exactly like her mother is not a real Christian. It bothered me immensely that she would use "quotes" when referring to such women. As if women who worked, or who had a differing opinion from her was in no way an actual Christian.

This brings me to my next point: DeMoss is very judgmental for a person who fancies herself a true Christian.

The few good points she had are lost though her abrasiveness and delusional thoughts on modern society.

One more thing: DeMoss is not married and has no children. So, if anything else, consider that before buying this book that has many thoughts about what she believes a wife and mother should be.

So far, So good for Ladies Bible Class
We're using "Lies" in our Ladies Bible Class. Currently we are on Lesson 3 and so far, the book has been an extremely well receive page-turner. Our LBC is 30 in size and we have 1 1/2 hours together. Up through Chapter 3, attendees have been open and receptive to DeMoss' writing and have provided intense feedback. I'll post updates as we progress through the book. Our class meets once a month.

Ever had questions that you could not find the answers to?
Try this book and see if you find the answers! Our marriage was on the rocks and after prayerfully reading this book, we were able to work it out! The book did'nt save our marriage but the new attitude I found did!

Save Yourself from Reading this Book
I would have given this book a negative 5 stars. I have never read a book where I had to write a disagreement comment on the margin of every page until I read this book. I do not believe that I have so sincerely disliked a book as much as I have disliked this book. What makes it more sad is that I really looked forward to this book.

I was asked to be part of a bible study with a group of about 5 other young ladies and this book was going to be the book we discussed and read together. We went through the work book together. I wanted to quit the bible study before the first week was through.

This author is so judgmental, so condescending, so narrow minded, and clearly has lived such a sheltered life that she has no ability to empathize with anyone. She brags about the fact that she has been sheltered and implies that this is how she has managed to escape these "lies women believe". This book is clearly directed to religious women, however, she openly mocks them for believing these lies. It amazed me that she mocks her intended audience. What editor would allow this book to be published? It is poorly written, she appears not only to be uneducated in her opinions but they are not even based in logic or the bible. She misquotes the bible numerous times in the work book, the questions are misleading, and often make no sense whatsoever.

The lies she actually lists were not lies I believed. I had a difficult time finding a lie that I thought any Christian women believed. She mentions some far more interesting lies that are not covered in her book, but I fear that if she had written about them they would not have been supported by the bible and were only more judgments made by her.

I was so dissapointed in that I believe a more knowledgable Christian women could have written this book and done a wonderful job. The idea was great, but was completely butchered by this author.

I write this review so that nobody else has to go through the torture I went through reading this book.

Lies Women Believe: And the Truth that Sets Them Free
Thank you for asking me to review this great book. First of all this book should be read by both women and men. I believe that the lies which are mentioned, not only pretain to women but to men, also. Second this book brings to light the lies we have gotten caught up in without even knowing what was going on. We used this book as a study in our Ladies Bible Study and you would be surprise how it has changed our outlook on life and helped us to be more aware of what is really going on around us. We should always put to the test, no matter the issue, does it line up with Scripture? What does God's Word say to this issue? When we keep our focus on God's Word, the Truth will set us free from the lies and God's forgiveness will give us peace and joy.
I highly recommend this book.
