If you buy one mountaineering book, buy this one.
All the hype was true; this really is one of the all-around best books I've ever seen on mountaineering. While not a training guide, the book is an excellent reference for camping, climbing, rappelling and mountaineering and should be in any outdoorsman's library. 2007-03-28

amountaineering;/THE FREEDOM OF THE HILLS
This is a staple text for training for mountain, snow country travel and activities. It touches on many important topics. There can only be so much room dedicated to any one topic, so it does lack depth on some subjects. It is an excellent starting point for mountianeering skills.
A good read before any course or hands on training.

A wonderful reference of climbing knowledge
A wonderful reference book. If you are interested in mountaineering and rock climbing, this book is a wonderful start or a great way to expand your knowledge. From basics like how to layer clothes, to must-knows like how to tie a clove hitch and a rewoven figure eight, to more advanced topics like proper anchor placement and finger placement on a crimp hold, this book covers most of the skills needed for climbing. As any good reference, it is well organized and easy to find the information you need. If you are a beginner looking for information or a pro who wants to supplement your knowledge or solidify your base of skills, this is a fantastic book. 2007-03-19
