A Different Approach
This book is a must for anyone adopting or fostering children. It gives whole new insight into their lives and how to cope with, and help them cope with, the difficult and traumatic issues that make them behave the way they do. Seeing the world through the eyes of these children and the pain they have suffered helps us depersonalize the behaviors and view them with more tolerance and love. 2008-04-21

The Most Helpful Book I've Owned
I ordered this book in January 2008, based upon the reviews that I had read on this site. Since buying the book, my husband has read the book cover to cover(a rare event), and we have ordered 4 more copies to share with teachers, friends, and family. In addition to those 4 copies, we have shared the book with at least 4 other people( several of whom are adoptive parents like us) who immediately ordered their own copies. I have no doubt that we will be sharing the book with many others who might benefit from the information that is inside of it.
Since reading this book and trying to implement the attitude and suggestions in it, our daughter (age 11) has become much more pleasant to be around. She has seldom been defiant or distant lately (qualities that seemed to define her just 2 or three months ago.)
The advice given in this book is healthy and based on love, but it is not the advice I have generally received in the past from professionals.
I think that all parents should at least read this book. I know that this book gives my husband and I hope and guidance consistent with the Bible. Finally we are getting help that actually seems to work.
I plan to attend one of the conferences held by the authors as soon as I can.

Hope for Those Labeled "Hopeless"
While I haven't had time to try the methods yet, this is the most hopeful book I've read about dealing with children with RAD and other issues surrounding abandonment. It deals with the root causes, not the resulting behaviors, and gives concrete examples of appropriate responses to common issues. 2008-02-19

This book is a must for any and all parents
I am a parent coach for at risk teens and a single mom of an adopted daughter. I just happened to come upon this book when ordering from Amazon. I was curious so bought a copy and can't say enough about how wonderful and amazing it is. Even though it is written for children with severe behaviors, I recommend it for all parents. We have all learned to parent from a fear model and this book gives you permission to follow your heart and to support your children in a loving way instead of controlling their behavior so that you can be happy.
