Questionable Efficacy
I guess this is supposed to be a "New Age" book. To these believers, I give it my recommendation.

While it could be that many readers following Dr. Zhi Ganmg Sha's recommendations in this book may experience some benefit, I have my doubts concerning the efficacy of these specific practices overall. Yes, their may be a calming effect, but I really doubt that the book will transform anyone's life.

Dr. Sha apparently sees no need to believe in a creator God. But he does concentrate heavily on love as a path to fulfillment. I see no harm in this book except that maybe it doesn't reach high enough. I just believe that readers should know that it is anti-religion and substitutes "mother Earth" for God.

I too am anti-religion - of the organized kind. But I am not anti-God. I am aware that man cannot really understand creation or the creator. But, "Mother Earth" is just a speck in this soler system, which is just a speck in the Milky Way galaxy, which is just a spec among billions or maybe trillions (maybe even more) of other galaxies - in a universe that has no boundaries. Even the greatest of mankind's sciences cannot fathom the total of realty. I sincerely doubt that a "New Age" guru can contribute much to human enlightenment.

People should understand that in the end all biological creatures are truly losers. In life we all experience both agonies and ecstasies. We all die and there are no pockets in a shroud. If creatures are reserected or not, all I know for sure is compassion for all living creatures is appropriate.

So disappointed-a total waste of time
I was so excited to get this book and see that there was a free CD of healing music inside! But let me tell you right now, the first thing you need to do is throw away the CD, then throw away the book - don't even pass it along to someone else because it could hurt them more than help them. Also, if you try to use the CD, you will have problems. It is not formatted for standard players. It worked on my computer, but it would not work on my BOSE or in my car.

This author parades his work as self help and spiritual philosophy, and I am very open and interested in new ideas and this sort of thing, but this book and author are not helpful nor spiritual. I can't believe it was on the New York Times Bestseller list!!! What kind of politics, money, or sex happened there???

The CD is like the book, beautiful on the outside but jarring to listen to. There is the lovely piano and string ensemble lulling you to a gentle state, then this nerve wracking fingernails-on-chalkboard kind of voice comes in to sing over and over and over the same la-la-las. Just awful is too kind. Just trash it is better.

The book appears wonderful on the outside, but the inside is just as jarring. Nothing new and something scary with the author trying to make us believe that we can tap into the divine and plug in to downloads for healing. Not the kind of launguage one should be looking for if seeking spiritual wisdom and knowledge. Also, the writing is just plain bad. It is very repetitive with short, choppy sentences - almost child like. I don't know if this is from his problem using the English language correctly (as evidenced on the CD, or just a really poor choice of editors.

The author seemed to be pushing his personal "follow me" beliefs whereas true spiritual teachers say don't follow me. They say follow god or your heart etc. Personal attention seeking and pandering just did not fit well with what I thought I was getting.

So-So -- Others have done it better
A holistic, soul and mind-oriented approach is always attractive to me, but I especially like when writers can translate it into practical, tangible activities one can do to expand mind and soul. I think Dr. Sha could have done so much more to accomplish this effectively than he has in his book.

There were a number of points at which the book felt longwinded and redundant.

At the same time, I appreciate what he has tried to do, and there are a number of points where he has been able to satisfactorily explain a more mind-body approach. But others, like Eckhart Tolle -- Practicing the Power of Now: Essential Teachings, Meditations, and Exercises from The Power of Now -- have done it far better than Dr. Sha.

Powerful life changing wisdom
I never knew what soul movement meant before but I'm glad I know now. It's like having your own Tai Chi/Chigong instructor right in your home. Your own soul guides you in the movements if you just let go and get out of the way. And soul singing? Wow, seems strange at first but a real trip. Unless one gets past reading this book without judgment and cynicism, they have not passed first base. The overall message is for the reader to get in touch with their soul, the source of true wisdom. Mind is where judgment and suspicion arise, while the soul has the power to transcend logical thinking. It is essential to follow through with the exercises in the book to really understand the evolvement possible. The basic message of the book is to get in touch with your soul, love, learn to receive guidance from it and let it heal you and transform your life. The secondary message from this writer is that if we all get to know and live from our soul, then this world can live in peace and harmony.

Powerful spiritual guidance, but not a fast read
Dr. Zhi Gang Sha, a New York Times best-selling author, as well as a physician, doctor of Chinese medicine, and spiritual teacher offers powerful secrets for healing and spiritual growth in "Soul Wisdom."

If you are already a follower of the doctor, you will certainly want to buy this volume and keep it by your bedside. It is not a book you will skim through quickly. It is written in a dense, circular style to encourage a slow, meditative reading. You will certainly nead to read some of the sections more than once.

The book introduces ways to allow the individual soul to heal the body and to join with other souls to heal the earth and universe.

Specific techniques introduced in the book include soul language and translation, soul song, soul movement, soul tapping, and soul dance. Dr. Sha repeatedly emphasizes the healing power of love, gratitude, forgiveness, and selfless service.

To familiarize yourself with Dr. Sha, his other books, and the history of his healing calling, visit http://www.drsha.com/

Note: This is not the usual self-help volume that can be read in a couple of hours. It requires concentration and practice for full benefit. Also, if the idea of reincarnation is antithetical to your religious belief system, Soul Wisdom is probably not for you.
